You would have to eat a lot of carrots to consume 15 mg of beta carotene every day, so it is a better idea to look for an eye health supplement that contains at least this much of this form of Vitamin A.

Additional vitamins and minerals included in the study performed by the National Eye Institute included vitamin C, vitamin E, zinc, and copper. 

Another vitamin suspected to decrease your risk of developing macular degeneration is vitamin B complex, and eye health professionals believe that antioxidants also play a large role in warding off this detrimental eye condition. 

Supplements that Help You Prevent Cataract Development

Unlike macular degeneration, which cannot be cured, cataracts can be removed surgically. However, there are also numerous supplements that can help you prevent cataract development, so you can help prevent their development entirely. Thankfully, many of the supplements that can help you prevent macular degeration also prevent formation of cataracts in your eyes, so you don't have to take an entire arsenal of vitamin supplements to protect your eye health. 

Vitamins that can help ward off cataracts include vitamins C and E. Antioxidants, especially zeaxanthin and lutein, also help prevent cataract clouding of eye lenses.
